Hmmm, Done. Satisfied? Nope.

Well, complete!  A photo for every day of July.  Honestly, while there are a couple I really like, I'm not particularly satisfied with my efforts.  When I look back at the first photo a day challenge I did I find many more photos that I still look at and enjoy.  "So not inspired" was definitely the rallying cry of this month.   Rallying what?  Rallying myself to accept a lower standard of photo for posting it would seem. 

Another 48 Photos. Each.  48 more weeks to July 1, 2012.  48 more photos.  48 more opportunities to post photos I'm proud of.

I need a new rallying cry.

Encore - Finishing with Fire - July 31st

I feel like I ought to finish off this month with something fabulous; our town's summer festival is this weekend and the options for photos are plentiful but in the end I didn't take many photos today.  I missed out on the dragon boat races [:(] and didn't visit the arts festival today and nothing else downtown was catching my attention. Nova Fire Spun Performance Arts was performing again this evening and I had the "real" camera with me tonight instead of the little point and shoot Nikon.  I'm not sure there's much of a difference showing...I really ought to embrace the art of the tripod if I want better photos in this situation but they are just such a pain. 

So without further ado, an encore of fire!  And in celebration of this being the last day I posted THREE :D
(Ok, I admit it- I like fire, I'm all for more fire...and photoging of fire.  If I had more time on my hands I would probably start playing with fire myself but my list of interests is long and time is always at a premium)

I'm cut off from clouds and sunsets but it never occurred to me to nix any more dancing photos.  Perhaps you all would prefer clouds to blurry distorted images of people.

Nothing special about this photo...just the view from my deck.  I like the view from my deck.  'Tis a peaceful evening :)

Not much dancing...much photoging...not many satisfying photos...so in the end you get 123, 123, wooooosh, as the waltzers fly by....

Swimming @ Sunset - July 27th

I've got some lovely photos from the beach at sunset tonight but I've been told I ought to be cut off from sunsets and clouds (fair enough, a bit of variety is generally a good thing) so I will post something else...a shivery (but smiling) girl after her first swim of the summer :D

I rarely see sunrises, so this had to be included!

And if you already have a sunrise and are driving past a sunset I think you really are obliged to make a set out of them.  So here's July 25th's sunset as well.

July 22 - My kind of tea

July 21 - Well, there was dancing but...

The view outside the hall was what caught my eye today.  I've found that I either have to focus on dancing at Grantham or focus on taking pictures...if I try and do both the evening seems to turn mediocre and unfocused [Groooooan, I know.  That was bad but it had to be done ;)]  Tonight was a dancing night - I'm not usually greedy but really - one must get as many good dances in as possible before the other half of the good dances departs for places east of here.  Hence the photo of something other than dancing.  Plus it was pretty :)

And the one below is what happens when you are too busy making a 3 hour playlist because you are playing DJ at tomorrow's dancing to remember to take a 'real' photo (though that one above actually is a black guinea pig at night, I didn't just post a black rectangle...honest).  Not exactly a worthwhile photo but it was late and I am apparently full of excuses...

Head to the Light - July 11th

When I'm not feeling particularly inspired I always head for some interesting lighting in hopes of finding a photo.

*Edit*  So I had a really hard time choosing a photo for today (obviously, as I posted 2) and I had a really hard time choosing between the arms above and the original version of the photo.  I love the crisp clear defined look of the light in the photo which is most apparent in the cropped version as well as the lines of the arms.  Though it looks so static-posed.  But it wasn't, and I like the original one for the same and different reasons :)  Still striking...plus the added dynamic of a shadow, an eye-line, and the implied presence of an apparently missing club...and I've been somewhat regretting not posting the original instead.  So here it is.

 A photo of teams actually paddling would have been preferable I suppose but my lens just isn't long enough for that so here are the Mentor Mariners after winning their final at the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival this afternoon.

(I embrace the "one" aspect of the photo a day challenge because it makes me edit and this is a good skill to have but I have more photos from today that I actually liked so I've posted them at the link above.  I like to feel like I'm not entirely cheating ;))

July 4th

Museum - July 3rd

Today was a completely uninspiring day as far as photoging went. Perhaps it was because I spent most of the day trying to force order on the chaos that is my living space. I came away from the day with the impression that I am living in a museum, both in a literal and figurative sense.  There is a lot of really old "stuff" in my house (see above)...as well as a lot of stuff that I have kept which is now so past it's place of importance in my life that it has become nearly meaningless-a relic from the past. Damn the packrat gene; I really must work on keeping that one in check...


(speaking of old...playing on my playlist while typing this:  The Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing"  Although, considering my music collection, it could have been something much older...)

Any 1000 Words - July 2nd

Since this is an "a photo"-a-day challenge I'm unable to add context to this shot by surrounding it with other photos that together would provide an entire story...although tomorrow's photo might give you an idea of what today's was about ;)

Until then you have free reign to make up any 1000 words you want to explain this field that is teeming with tents.

And So It Begins - July 1st

Lamp light...more attractive than photos of people eating under it...

It exudes the same warmth as the atmosphere of companionable consumption of tasty treats going on below it but without all the awkward faces, strange arm positions, and general discomfort I usually manage to capture when taking photos of people gathered around a dinner table... :)
